Chapter 1 Empty
PostSubject: Chapter 1   Chapter 1 Icon_minitimeFri Oct 05, 2012 11:38 pm

It started 2 months ago
We were assigned to guard the outpost while the ship went on it's usual mining run, we don't see much trouble from natives, as most planets were deserted. The mission briefing stated that this planet was devoid of life, and it was safe to mine.
"What the hell is that?!" Screamed one of my colleagues as we departed the ship. He pointed to what appeared to be a blueish tar pit.
"Just some tar, idiot."
"Learn your place recruit, I know it's your first mission, but don't be ass." The general barked at the recruit giving us shit.
Let me explain a couple of things before continuing, the way mining the planet works is there are a batch of soldiers on the ship, and a batch on the planet. Excavators are escorted to the coordinates provided at the briefing. Excavators plant the land marks and we head back to the ship, the resources from the mission are then taken back to Earth to be used by humans, it's as simple as that.
The Excavator placed the marks and the ship's mineral collector was turned on. Lights of red and blue flashed inside and out the ship as the minerals were mined. think of it as a police siren, warning everyone to get out of the extraction zone. After the selected area's valuable resources are depleted, the excavators go in and clean up.We don't do the whole planet at once for a couple of reasons.
1) We wouldn't be able to get all of the resources as most would be lost in the endless void of space.
2) We tried sending in soldiers to get the resources, but cosmic monstrosities showed us what their intestines look like in space before imploding.
So you can't blame us for being slow, but it's more efficient to go a little at a time.
About an hour passed of this planet's time, or 6 hours of Earth's time, we were finishing up.
"Now for this part..." The excavator put the marks around the tar pit, and started the excavation. The blueish goo went up the pipes rather smoothly. However, all hell broke loose on the station.
"THE HELL IS THAT?!" The general yelled at the excavator for what felt like half an hour about how his poor judgement skills are going to loose us money and such. Not paying attention to the fact that this hasn't been discovered and might be worth a alternative fuel source. The tar was put in a tank, with reinforced glass, and our top research scientists observing the tar.
The glass started to crack after about an hour of observing the tar, it was seemingly 'consuming the glass for sustenance' I'd think that reinforced glass is a touch indigestible, but who am I to argue with a scientist. "Interesting..." One of the scientists said frequently as the glass cracked more and more. The tar now was flowing out drop by drop, sticking to any substance around it and consuming it, making it bigger and bigger.
"It's everywhere!" "RUN!" "It's killing all of the crew!" "I TOLD YOU WE SHO-" It got everywhere, shooting it wasn't doing crap to it, and we were running out of time, it was going through the ship, headed straight for the engine. I was getting my armor on as the ship was getting consumed piece by piece.
"Th- They're rising!?"
